The profession of Speech and Language Therapy is an independent scientific field that is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature, integrating biomedical sciences (anatomy, physiology, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology, genetics, physical therapy and rehabilitation, audiology, etc.), clinical linguistics (phonetics, acoustics, phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics), psychology, cognitive neuropsychology, and special education sciences. The Undergraduate Program in Speech and Language Therapy aims to train highly qualified and field-competent therapists who can provide comprehensive knowledge regarding language, speech, voice, and swallowing development and disorders in adults and children, in accordance with international professional standards. Within this framework, the program encompasses both theoretical and clinical training. Following theoretical coursework, students engage in applied clinical practice. Students are expected to collaborate with specialists from various disciplines using the theoretical and practical expertise they acquire in their field. They should be able to examine scientific methods and techniques and conduct research using these approaches. They should also be able to interpret, evaluate, and analyze data and develop evidence-based solutions. During intervention processes, students must be able to perform assessments of language and speech functions using necessary technical equipment, devices, and tools. They should be capable of making differential diagnoses and developing therapy programs for individuals receiving Speech and Language Therapy. Additionally, they should be competent in proposing preventive approaches for early age groups and initiating follow-up processes. Students should provide detailed information to families of individuals with speech and language disorders and offer family counseling. Furthermore, they should develop awareness regarding the importance of increasing societal recognition and understanding of the field of Speech and Language Therapy.
